Using Oracle through its web interface

• This method can only be done on campus. To access Oracle:
  • Open a web browser
  • Connect to http://database.csci.viu.ca:8080/apex/
  • Use your username (the same as your Oracle text interface username) as the workspace and login name, and use your student number as the password the first time you login;
• Once logged in, you'll need to change your login password. The web interface password can be different from your text interface password, but it is strongly recommended that you use the same password for both text and web interface.
• The web interface would allow you to browser the site.
• There are a set of the tables created under HR schema. To find out the names of the tables owned by HR, you can go to SQL, then SQL Commands, then type in the following query:

      select table_name
      from all_tables
      where owner = 'HR';
      

  Then, press 'Run' to run this query.
• For each table that you can access, if you want to see the schema of the table, type in the query "describe <table_name>", then press 'Run' to run the query.
• In the SQL Commands Window, you can type multiple queries, then select one to run.
