A set of five quizzes will be run in the labs but using VIULearn, roughly every two weeks
starting in late September.
Quizzes will be issued through VIULearn, each quiz will take roughly 50 minutes
to complete and will be available over a three-day time period (see the tentative
quiz schedule below).
The quizzes will be worth 6% each for a total of 30% of your final grade.
Your final exam mark can be used to replace one lower quiz mark.

Once the instructor posts it, you can get your quiz feedback by:
going to Assessments, then Quizzes, then (in a column on the right)
select "Feedback on Attempt" for the desired quiz.

- quiz 2: Quiz available 8am Oct. 18 to 8pm Oct. 20
- quiz 3: Quiz available 8am Nov. 1 to 8pm Nov. 3
- quiz 4: Quiz available 8am Nov. 22 to 8pm Nov. 24
- quiz 5: Quiz available 8am Dec. 6 to 8pm Dec. 8
Final Exam
The final exam will be worth 25% of your total grade and will be held as a
"take-home" style of exam on VIULearn during the scheduled VIU exam period.
It will be available from 8am Dec. 12th (the first day of the exam period)
to 8pm Dec. 21st (the final day of the exam period).
It is only intended to take roughly 3 hours to complete, but no actual
time limit will be enforced and you will be able to complete the exam across
multiple sessions.
It will be open book, open notes, use of typical course software
(git, gdb, etc) is permitted, but the exams must of course be completed
as strictly individual efforts: no communication about the exam questions or
content with anyone but the course instructor during the days the exam is
available.
The exam must be written and submitted as specified.
Exceptions will only be made for officially documented illnesses or
emergencies, in which case the student is expected to contact their
instructor as soon as they are able return to university and arrange
for a make-up exam to be taken as soon as possible. Note that the
make-up exam will NOT be the same exam given to the rest of
the class.
In terms of prep/review:
- we will hold a review session during the lecture session on Monday December 5th,
- a set of practice questions have been posted, and
- a copy of last year's online final exam has been posted on VIULearn.
